Super Lig Updates
From coaches being sacked early into the season to players being loaned, these are just a few updates from in and around the top division Turkey football league.
It’s not all good news for Turkey’s Super Lig despite starting its 19th Week. Sure, a few teams have made progress but more than half of the teams have also fired their coaches thus far. Abdullah Avcı of Beşiktaş was the most recent manager to be fired while Hes Kablo Kayserispor has broken the record for the most number of coach changes. The club, which sits at the bottom of the league table, was led by four different managers so far this season. Meanwhile, three other coaches were hired by two different teams during the first half of the 2019/20 season.
Of the clubs in the top five spots in the Super Lig, Trabzonspor was the sole club that fired and replaced their coach. The other clubs that sacked their manager were those that were near or in the relegation zone. Kayserispor, who also elected a new chair, started the current season being led by Hikmet Karaman. However, due to stacking financial problems and disastrous results, they were forced to let go of him and ultimately hired Samet Aybaba, then Bülent Uygun, and finally, to Robert Prosinecki. Prosinecki already led the team for a brief time in 2012 to 2013.

Beşiktaş, who dropped to seventh after starting the season with a winning streak, also let go of Abdullah Avcı, the coach who helped get Medipol Başakşehir to the Super Lig last season. As it stands, the Black Eagles do not have any coach, similar to Kasımpaşa and MKE Ankaragücü. The two clubs also let go of their coaches, Tayfur Havutçu and Mustafa Kaplan, respectively.
Meanwhile, Attamah, a midfielder from Ghana, joined Fatih Karagumruk, a football club in Turkey’s second division, on loan from Istanbul Basaksehir. He was also previously on loan at Rizespor but had this ended. ‘Our club has mutually agreed with Joseph Attamah, who we acquired at the start of the season, to terminate his contract’, said the club in a statement. ‘We thank him for his services to our club and wish him success in his next football career’.
However, he is unable to continue playing at his parent Super Lig club. With that, his only option was to play for a football club a tier lower of the top division in the Turkish football league system. Fatih Karagumruk thanked Istanbul Basaksehir for allowing the transfer to take place. ‘We would like to thank Basaksehir FK President Mr Goksel Gumusdag and Caykur Rizespor President Mr Hasan Kartal for their support in the transfer process’, said the club in a tweet.
Currently, Fatih Karagumruk is in 12th place in the TFF 1. Lig. Attamah played in 14 games for Rizespor in the Super Lig where he recorded one assist and three yellow cards. He also played for his parent club Istanbul Basaksehir during their Champions League qualification match against Olympiacos earlier this season.
