It was to create a premier basketball league for West Asia and Gulf countries. Its inaugural season started in December 2022 and ended in June 2023.

Final Eight:

If you're a basketball fan looking for an exciting international competition, the FIBA WASL is worth checking out. Here are the reasons why you should not miss out on it:

High-level of play

Old and new rivalries

The tournament is not new to the intense matches between old rivalries like Al-Ittihad Ahli vs. Al Wahda. Al Wahda defeated Al-Ittihadi in the 2022-23 Syrian Basketball League. For the 2024 FIBA WASL, Al-Ittihadi promises to make a comeback.

Aside from old rivalries, it’s also expected to see Al Riyadi facing new teams with which fresh rivalries develop. These rivalries can add heat and intensity to the games, making them even more exciting to watch and wager on.

International competition

The league features teams from not only West Asia and the Gulf but also Central Asia and South Asia. This unique mix of teams brings together different playing styles and creates exciting matchups.

Pathway to bigger tournaments

Winning the WASL is a great achievement, but it also serves as a stepping stone. Strong WASL teams qualify for the FIBA Asia Champions Cup, which is another prestigious tournament. Top teams also get the chance to play in the FIBA Intercontinental Cup, the highest level of competition for clubs worldwide.

Growing recognition

The FIBA WASL is a relatively new league, starting its first season in December 2022. This means there's a lot of fresh energy and excitement surrounding the league, and it will be interesting to see how it develops in the coming years.

How do national teams benefit from FIBA WASL?
