Counter-Strike 2 tournament format: How it works
The CS2 games in the Esports World Cup will be held from July 17 to 21. It will start with an opening stage where teams play in a single-elimination bracket format. Here, matches are played in a Best-of-Three (Bo3) series. The teams who win two maps out of three in their Bo3 games will advance to the Playoffs, while losers will proceed to the Play-In Stage.
The Play-In Stage is ultimately a second chance for teams to prove themselves worthy of a spot in the Playoffs. Similar to the opening stage, it's a single-elimination bracket, but the stakes are higher, with only one map determining the teams to advance. The sole survivor from this gauntlet will have a spot in the Playoffs.
Finally, the Playoffs will determine the champion. It's another single-elimination bracket but in Bo3 format. The team that conquers every opponent in the Playoffs will reign supreme as the CS2 Esports World Cup champion.

Strong contenders to winning the Counter-Strike 2 Esports World Cup series
All of the teams playing in the tournament have earned their place. Aside from the winners of the IEM Katowice 2024 (Team Spirit) and Copenhagen Major 2024 (NAVI), the other teams were invited based on their ESL World Rankings and their regional qualifiers.
However, these are the top contenders in the Esports World Cup:
FaZe Clan (EU)
Having qualified because of their high ESL World Ranking, FaZe Clan is one of the top teams to look out for in the Esports World Cup CS2 event. Best known for their talent, expect Helvijs ‘broky’ Saukants, the team’s star AWPer, to rack up kills for the team.
They also have young prodigy David ‘frozen’ Čerňanský, who has become crucial to the team’s strategies. However, some questions linger about in-game leadership following Finn ‘karrigan’ Andersen’s occasional tactical missteps in the recent BLAST Premier: Spring Final 2024. Can they overcome this to translate their firepower into a championship run?
NAVI (EU)
NAVI has consistently been a force to be reckoned with in the CS esports scene. As the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 winners, expect to see them ride this wave of momentum into the Esports World Cup.
Although their star player Oleksandr ‘s1mple’ Kostyljev is likely not to participate, NAVI has amazing players like Valerij ‘b1t’ Vakhovsjkyj and Aleksi ‘Aleksib’ Virolainen to count on. Their aggressive playstyle, partnered with adaptability, will come in clutch for the team, especially against more defensive teams.
MOUZ (EU)
Known for their back-to-back wins at the ESL Pro League, MOUZ is another team to look out for in the Esports World Cup. Although they struggle against teams with solid firepower, they are good at outsmarting their opponents.
What they are best known for on the battlefield is their offence, thanks to consistent performers like Dorian ‘xertioN’ Berman and Kamil ‘siuhy’ Szkaradek. When in good form, MOUZ can beat strong teams like Team Spirit. The BetBoom Dacha Belgrade 2024 is a good example of this.
Team Spirit (EU)
As the winners of both the BLAST Premier: Spring Final and Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2024 tournaments, Team Spirit is undoubtedly one of the favourites to win the Esports World Cup. What helped the team gather several major wins was their teamwork and ability to adapt mid-game.
Also, the talent and skills of each player have been crucial to their success. Boris ‘magixx’ Vorobyev, their star AWPer, continues to impress with his clutch plays, while Leonid ‘chopper’ Vishnyakov has been a solid in-game leader of the team.

Esports World Cup betting: CS2 markets and odds
The Esports World Cup offers bettors a chance to potentially win massive payouts. With more than 20 esports titles with their own respective tournaments, the international tournament is a promising opportunity for esports fans and bettors alike.
Here are the CS2-specific betting markets and odds to explore for FPS enthusiasts:
Match betting markets
These are specific outcomes of matches that you can wager on. Consider the matchup stats first before you bet on these markets:
-
Winner: Simply predict which team wins their game. For Bo3s, bet on which team wins 2 maps out of 3. For Bo1s, bet on which team wins the map.
-
Map Winner: This market focuses specifically on predicting the winner of an individual map within a match. For the Bo3 series, predict who wins Map 1, Map 2, and possibly Map 3. The results of this market are not dependent on who wins the Bo3 as a whole.
-
Correct Score: Bet on the correct score of a map. The team who closes 13 rounds first will win the map, unless the scoreline ends in a 12-12. In such cases, the game will continue in Overtime and whoever team gets two consecutive points first wins.
-
Pistol Round Winner: In FPS games like CS2, each half of a match includes two pistol rounds. You can predict which team will win a specific pistol round within the match.
Betting odds
Understanding esports odds is crucial as it allows you to assess the likelihood of different CS2 market outcomes and make informed decisions. At Sportsbet.io, there are different odds formats available. These are:
-
American: In this format, the odds are represented with positive (+) or negative (-) values. The former typically indicates the underdogs, which are the riskier bets but offer higher potential payouts. On the other hand, the latter represent the favourites, which are considered safer bets with lower potential rewards.
-
Decimal: The decimal odds format shows the potential payout for a successful $1 bet. The lower the decimal number, the more the team or player is considered a favourite. Conversely, the higher the decimal number, the more the team or player is seen as an underdog.
-
Hong Kong: This format combines elements of the previous two. Odds below 1.00 indicate the favourite, while odds above 1.00 represent the underdog. When the odds are exactly 1.00, it represents an even 1:1 payout ratio.
Tips to consider when betting on CS2
The Esports World Cup's CS2 tournament promises intense and exciting matchups. For those looking to place a bet, navigating the odds requires careful consideration. Here are some key tips to factor in:
Bankroll management
Smart bankroll management is key when CS2 Esports World Cup betting. Set a dedicated betting budget and never chase losses. Decide a flat bet amount (e.g., 5% of your bankroll) per wager. This controls risk and avoids going all-in on a single match. With discipline, your bankroll can withstand the inevitable losses and capitalise on wins.
Recent form
Look beyond overall win rates and delve into recent performances in S-Tier and A-Tier tournaments leading up to the World Cup. Did a team struggle in the playoffs of a major or dominate a regional qualifier? Recent form is a strong indicator of a team's current momentum and ability to handle pressure.
You can also check the team’s lineup and see if there are any recent changes in the roster due to injury or other reasons. Team synergy is important in FPS games so losing an effective player in the lineup might have significant effects to the team’s games.
Map pool analysis
CS2 maps are like battlefields, each favouring different team strategies. With this, analyse a team's map pool depth. Does the team excel on Nuke but struggle on Inferno? Conversely, how will their opponents fare? Understanding a team's comfort level on specific maps can give valuable insights into potential match outcomes.
Here are the maps that will be played in the CS2 Esports World Cup series:
-
Ancient
-
Anubis
-
Dust II
-
Inferno
-
Mirage
-
Nuke
-
Vertigo
Consider map vetoes as well as you make your predictions. It’s possible for some teams to permaban some maps when their opponent has a high win rate on a specific map.
Look into advanced player and team stats
Look beyond basic win-loss records. The Esports betting section of our site has a Stats Hub where you can check both player and team stats of upcoming matchups.
Aim and game sense are significant to consider in Counter-Strike 2 pro games. Advanced statistics like kill/death (K/D) ratios, Average Damage Per Round (ADR), and win rates on Counter-Terrorist (CT) and Terrorist (T) sides are also key factors in a match. These metrics can reveal a team's strengths (aggressive playstyle) or weaknesses (struggling defence).
