The National Basketball Association (NBA) is the premier basketball league in North America and arguably the world’s best basketball league. Comprising 30 teams – 29 from the United States (US) and 1 from Canada – the NBA is divided into Eastern and Western conferences. Its global media coverage makes it the best of all regional basketball leagues around the world.

Both sides host a regular season followed by a play-in from October to mid-April. The top 8 teams of each conference advance to the playoffs which run from April to June.

The most successful team in the NBA is the Boston Celtics having won 18 championships with their latest victory in the 2023/24 season. Followed by the Los Angeles Lakers with 17 trophies and their latest win was in the 2019/20 season. The Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) stands as one of the best overseas basketball leagues for having the top promotion outside the NBA. It’s an annual tournament consisting of 20 teams divided into Northern and Southern divisions but this only comes into play during All-Star events.

The regular season kicks off in October and the final round happens sometime in March. Playoffs begin in April and the whole CBA season concludes in May or June.

The Guangdong Southern Tigers is the most successful CBA team with 11 title victories, the latest of which was in 2020/21. Following their feat is the Bayi Rockets who have 8 championship titles since 2006/07. Half-way to match their records is the Liaoning Flying Leopards who won their 4th title in 2023/24 as a 3-time CBA back-to-back champion.

Chinese Development Basketball League (CDBL)

The Chinese Development Basketball League (CBDL) or CBA Development League (CDL) has exciting fixtures that can be a great addition to your sports betting lineup. It serves as the feeder system for CBA and focuses on preparing reserved players, coaches, and referees before they’re ready for the top basketball leagues.

Teams in this league are affiliated with clubs in the CBA that also play in the Chinese National Basketball League (NBL). Notable players who jumped from here to the top pro league include Zhao Rui, Hu Mingxuan, and Xu Jie of the Guangdong Southern Tigers. It is worth noting that the CDBL is not as well covered in the media so basketball betting odds are less dynamic.

FIBA West Asia Super League (WASL)

The West Asia Super League (WASL) was launched in 2022 and rapidly shaped up as one of the best international basketball leagues in history. It consists of 18 clubs from across the Gulf and West Asia sub-zones. Participating nations in the WASL are as follows:

West Asia League

Gulf League

  • Iran

  • Iraq

  • Jordan

  • Lebanon

  • Palestine

  • Syria

  • Bahrain

  • Kuwait

  • Oman

  • Qatar

  • Saudi Arabia

  • United Arab Emirates

The WASL also invited non-regular participants outside of West Asia like India from South Asia which participated in the 2023/24 season. Seeding and invitations will be different annually and on a case-by-case basis from the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).

The tournament schedule may differ per season as the inaugural edition began in December and ended in March. It is followed by sub-zone playoffs from March to April which is followed by the Final 8 between May and June.

The most successful teams in the WASL are Manama from Qatar and Al Riyadi Beirut from Lebanon. From subzones, Kuwait Club from Kuwait won both Gulf Leagues and Al Riyadi Beirut won both seasons of the West Asia League.

Sportsbet.io brings all of the biggest basketball leagues in the world into one mobile-friendly bookmaker. All fixtures are arranged by schedule and by leagues allowing you to make the following types of bets:

  • In-play: From this category, you are betting on the outcomes of an ongoing match. You may bet on the winner, over/under total scores, and propositions.
