How to bet on baccarat
The goal of the game is simple: to bet on the winning side. There are three types of bets you can make in baccarat: Banker bet, Player bet or Tie bet. A winning side means a hitting a score of 8-9 through a natural win or after 3 cards are dealt.
How to calculate a baccarat score:
Cards 2 to 9 = face value in points
Tens, Jacks, Queens and Kings = 0 points
Aces = 1 point.
Jokers are not used in baccarat.
When the game begins, each side - the banker and the player - are dealt with 2 cards. Should one side get a natural win with a score of 8-9, that side would win.
If the player's score is 6 or 7, the player stands. When the player stands, the banker will hit if they have a score of 5 or less.
If the player's score is 5 or less, the player automatically hits and gets a third card. If the player hits, the banker will also hit according to these rules:
Banker score of 0-2: banker always hits
Banker score of 3: banker hits if the player's third card is a number card (but not 8)
Banker score of 4: banker hits if the player's third card is 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7
Banker score of 5: banker hits if the player's third card is 4, 5, 6 or 7
Banker score of 6: banker hits if the player's third card is 6 or 7
Banker score of 7: banker always stands
So which side should you wager your money on? Many experts suggest to bet on the banker because the house edge when doing so, is one of the lowest of any casino game:
Banker bet - house edge of 1.06%, and the player must add a 5% commission to the banker on each winning bet
Player bet - house edge of 1.26%, amounting to almost the same odds as the banker when considering the commission the player has to pay
Tie bet - house edge of 14.36%
Besides the three main bets, some games may also offer side bets, such as pairs, big/small and black/red, to spice up the game. Although these side bets are popular, they do have higher house edges and may affect your bankroll.
Baccarat payouts and odds
As with almost every online casino game, you need to understand two things when it comes to payouts and odds for online baccarat: RTP and volatility. RTP is the percentage of all wagered money that a casino game pays back to its players over time. This will give you an idea of how much you could possibly win. Volatility shows you how much risk is involved. Baccarat games with higher volatility mean lower chances of winning with higher payouts, and vice versa for low volatility games.
Baccarat is described as having one of the lowest house edge percentages for casino games. To get the house percentage, simply subtract the RTP from 100%. For example, a game with 98.94% RTP will give you a house edge of 1.06%.

Don't go for tie bets
While the odds are attractive, the house edge is 14.36% and there isn't a high probability of this happening compared to the other bets.
Bet with the banker until they lose
Bankers generally have a competitive edge of winning just over 50% of the games. Also, the fact that there's a commission on the banker bet is just proof that this is a good beginner strategy to go with.
